Beyonce made sure to give her husband, Jay Z, a birthday to remember. The Young Forever rapper celebrated his 49th birthday on Tuesday and, although they’re thousands of miles away from home, Bey, 37, still threw a huge party in his honour in South Africa.
Over the weekend, the couple headlined the Global Citizen: 100 Mandela in Johannesburg to mark the centenary of the late Nelson Mandela. Video footage shared by DJ Black Coffee shows Beyonce leading a birthday singalong for her hubby and his close friend and longtime business partner Jay Brown, who also celebrated his birthday.
Queen Bey then put those famous vocals to good use and led their group of friends and family in song. It came just as Beyonce’s mother, Tina Knowles, shared a heartfelt birthday message to her son-in-law, praising his ‘loyalty’ and describing him as an ‘incredible husband’. Tina wrote on Instagram: ‘A very Happy Birthday to my amazingly talented, super smart, gracious, classy, filled with swag son-in-law. ‘I have witnessed your loyalty to all of your friends, some from childhood if only we all could be so supportive of our friends and share a mutual love and respect for each other like you and your amazing friends.’
She continued: ‘You have done so much for our culture, thank you for that! I could not be more happy to have you in my family and could not be more happy to be in yours. ‘I have watched you grow personally in leaps and bounds and you are an incredible husband and the best father! I love you.’
Tina also credited Jay Z’s mother, Gloria Carter, and his Grandma Hattie for doing a ‘great’ job in raising him. Beyonce and Jay have made the most of their momentous trip to South Africa, bringing along friends and family members including Kelly Rowland and their three children, Blue Ivy, Rumi and Sir.
